Joelle Barker, daughter of Tim and Michelle Barker (Lawson) and granddaughter of Mike and Sharlene Freeman of Hermitage wrapped up her high school track season in June with participation in the Class 3 state track meet. On May 23-24, her team, the Lawson Cardinals, participated in the state meet and she helped them finish in a three-way tie for Class 3 fourth place and earn a state trophy for her school. Barker earned three medals in the 300m hurdle finals: 5th Place, 47.18; 4x400 finals: 3rd place, 4:05.29 (PR); and Javelin: 3rd place, 37.53m (PR). After her high school season concluded, she competed in the AAU Regional Track Meet in Springfield with a fourth place finish in Javelin (37.66m PR) and fifth place finish in the 400m Hurdles (1:07.45 PR), earning her a spot in the AAU Jr. Olympics in Houston, Texas.
