Light Up The Lake Starts Friday

A small-town tradition with a big sparkle is back and brighter than  ever.

The Pomme de Terre Chamber of Commerce will once again transform the lakeshore into a glowing wonderland for the holidays with their Light Up the Lake Christmas lights display, open Nov. 28- Dec. 31.

Now in its fifth year, Light Up the Lake has grown into one of the area’s most beloved winter attractions and this year is already breaking records, according to the Pomme de Terre Chamber of Commerce.  More than 100 local  businesses and organizations will be setting up dazzling displays, making this the largest Light Up the Lake yet.

“It’s amazing to see how much creativity our community brings to this event,” said  Joanne Finn, Director of the Chamber. “Every year, more people want to be part of it. It’s not just lights, it’s our whole community shining together.”

From 5:30-9 p.m. each night at Pomme de Terre Lake’s Damsite Park, near the junction of Highways 64 and  254 (Carson’s Corner), visitors will enjoy a drive-through display featuring thousands of lights twinkling across the trees, tunnels, and shoreline. They will also enjoy festive holiday music  playlists, carefully curated to create a new soundtrack each night, making every trip  through the park a little different.

Adding to the magic will be Santa Claus’ visit on Dec. 6, 13, and 20. He will be welcoming families to stop briefly at Santa’s House for photos and holiday greetings.

One of the event’s most meaningful traditions continues this year, when local non-profit  groups take turns staffing the gate and collecting donations. The funds are split between the group working that night and the Chamber, ensuring that every dollar given stays in the local community.

“Light Up the Lake isn’t just a holiday event. It’s a celebration of community spirit,”  Finn said. “Our volunteers and sponsors make it happen, and every visitor helps support  local programs that matter.”

Visitors are reminded that Light Up the Lake is a drive-through experience. Guests are asked to remain in their vehicles while enjoying the lights, except when stopping at Santa’s House on the scheduled dates.

Pomme de Terre Damsite Park is at 24318 Highway 254 in Hermitage. Admission is free, but donations are encouraged. For more visit www.pommedeterrechamber.com or call 417-308-9177.
