The Index has confirmed that residents in the Village of Preston will likely be without water on Monday, Jan. 12, due to a valve correction issue Village officials hopes only lasts throughout the day.
As noted on their Facebook page, officials stated “There is a potential city-wide water shut down coming to Preston. This include the Bullseye gas station, as well as surrounding homes and businesses.”
The water stoppage is expected to occur around 9 a.m. Citizens are asked to prepare to have no water on Monday and for a boil advisory. The Index staff have been unable to reach the Village of Preston City Hall for a direct confirmation, but Kevin Burgess, maintenance supervisor for the City of Hermitage, said that he would be assisting technicians in Preston with the project, which was caused by a faulty valve.
“They have a valve that’s messed up,” he said. “It’s leaking, so we have to kill the water and fix it.”
Village officials suggested that residents store water in jugs and leak proof containers over the weekend. They may also want to purchase bottled water to last through to Monday and try using paper products and disposable plates, bowls and utensils instead of dishes which may need to be washed.
“We hope the shut off will be for Monday only,” their Facebook post stated.
