From September 15 to 17, The Prairie Swap held its most recent and largest event of the year. Situated a short distance west of Wheatland on Highway 54, this swap is hosted by Kristi Lawson, alongside her sister and brother-in-law, Staci and Mark Beem.
They reported that they were “pleasantly surprised” by the high attendance this time around and are eager to see the event continue to grow. With over 50 vendors present, this was the most successful turnout yet.
Vendors offered a wide variety of items, including homemade crafts, holiday decorations, tools, antiques, flowers, and various poultry such as turkeys, chickens, and guineas. Some vendors even specialized in customized hats, allowing customers to select their preferred style, color, and accessories. Additional offerings included furniture, clothing, and all sorts of other items.
The mouthwatering aroma from Boones BBQ Barn’s trailer filled the air, enticing visitors with their extensive menu of sandwiches (brisket, pulled pork, pulled chicken, and burgers), smoked meat nachos, and rib dinners. Sides such as potato salad, creamy coleslaw, and baked beans were also available.
For those looking for traditional fair treats, options ranged from cotton candy and fresh lemonade to snow cones. Additionally, visitors could enjoy the delicious taste of freshly made kettle corn.
To top it off, there was a pleasant outdoor seating area where everyone could relax and savor their lunch or treats.
